Amelia Fox

The Invisible Black Country, 2021

installation, audio, 4 phones, hand made sign.

Solo and group telephone conversations discussing the Black Country's hidden history whilst displaying its dialect and accent. Fox is showcasing the knowledge taught by those who have lived within the area all their life, portraying stories and conversations spoken using the dialect through a set of rewired telephones—inviting the audience to tune into a realistic performance of the hidden region

Amelia Fox is an artist who specialises in sculpture ranging in materials such as clay, plaster, and cardboard. She follows the idea of topics that are hidden to us or subjects in which we choose to ignore, from mental health (such as anxiety and body dysmorphia), homelessness within the city of Lincoln, eco-printing, and completing her three years with a piece depicting her Black Country dialect.

Fox’s current work about the Black country dialect explores the hidden nature of the accent and understanding of the region’s local history, often not shown within history books. Fox is showcasing the knowledge taught by those who have lived within the area all their life via an installation piece that will portray stories and conversations spoken using the dialect through a set of rewired telephones—inviting the audience to tune into a realistic performance of the hidden region.
