Alana Butler is a multi-disciplinary artist focusing on social commentary with political awareness. She uses photography, sculpture, and installations to delve into the human psyche and explore social oddities, power dynamics, and what it is to live in an inaccessible society.
Her project 'Don't Cross Me', subtly explores boundaries, violation, security, and femininity. The threshold represents the most important step you take when entering and leaving a safe space. For 97% of women, leaving your doorstep puts you in immediate danger, and for others experiencing domestic abuse, entering your own home could be even more dangerous. Don't Cross Me uses a traditionally feminine medium to draw out themes of vulnerability and fragility.
"Do not cross my threshold if you are going to cross me".
Born in Birmingham, Alana is currently based in Lincoln and studying a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. She is preparing to undertake an MA Fine Art at the University of Lincoln in autumn 2021.
