Ailsa Chalmers
Encompassing Nature, 2021
Digital print on cotton drill fabric
This installation delves into our relationship with the natural environment. It encourages the audience to consider the beauty of nature and the vital role that the natural environment plays in relation to human existence; specifically, in one's state of mind.
Working with paint and sculpture, Ailsa Chalmers’ work explores our perception of mental health and the relationships we have with the natural environment. Her past works not only depict her admiration for the natural landscape but encourages her audience to consider the vital role that nature plays in relation to human existence, specifically in one's state of mind.
Chalmers uses her works to not only provoke a response from the audience, but to encourage an interactive personal experience that challenges the relationship between the art and the viewer. She creates her work with audience participation in mind, whether that is through close physical interaction or a more personal from of emotional participation.
