Katy Hill

Lockdown Cycle, 2021

Collaborative performance

‘Lockdown cycle’ is a collaborative Surrealist performance made in conjunction with dancer Katie Byford. The performance is choreographed around a washing machine and its representation of monotonous lockdowns lifestyles but, the machine also takes on a greater embodiment of habitat over the object.

Katy Hill is an artist that works across multiple disciplines and predominately focuses on a contemporary feminine approach to the Surrealist art movement. Her practice began to mature throughout the coronavirus pandemic and therefore takes influence from lockdown, exploring our interactions with inanimate objects and internal domestic surroundings. Her work aims to provide humour that contradicts the current external global climate that we were emersed in. However, also to distract viewers from the sombre mundane reality of everyday life within the pandemic. Her body of work plays with absurdity and childish mergers of styles, objects and aesthetics.
