Sleep Paralysis, 2021

10 minute 35 second video

‘Sleep paralysis’ is an immersive piece created to allow a unique insight into the experience of sleep paralysis and place the viewer in a dream like space as they are mesmerised by the rhythmic movement of the characters they encounter.

Lucy Hardisty has been creating artwork for exhibitions since 2018. She is a portrait artist working in a combination of mediums, from painting to film. The portraiture aims to develop a language between the version of ourselves that is visible to others in our appearance and the version of ourselves that lives within, in the way of our personality and mental health. Her work is publicly engaging and community-based, whether individuals be the subject matter or participants in her work. Over the past three years, she has been developing a unique form of portraiture which removes the face entirely and focuses on more abstract methods of representing people. She focuses on storytelling beyond text and portraiture beyond paint.
